Sportsbook Data Methodology

This page is the canonical description of every number on the sportsbook pages. If a claim on this site cannot be reproduced from the method below, treat it as a bug and tell us.

Data collection

We capture pre-match 1X2 odds with our own scraper pipeline, on a fixed cadence, into an append-only snapshot store (running since 2026-06-04). Each snapshot records bookmaker, match, outcome, decimal price and capture time. We never backfill or edit historical snapshots.

Sample definitions

A complete quote is one bookmaker posting all three 1X2 outcomes at the same capture moment. Window metrics report: calendar days covered, distinct matches, and complete quote groups. Repeated captures of the same match are never counted as independent samples for match-level metrics.

Median 1X2 overround

For each complete quote: overround = 1/home + 1/draw + 1/away − 1. We report the median per bookmaker per window. Lower is better; the sharp-market reference is shown alongside. Note: margins are naturally wider far ahead of kickoff and tighten as matches approach.

Best-price share & average price rank

For each match and outcome we take each bookmaker’s last quote in the window (closing quote) and rank all competing books by price. Best-price share = how often a book offers the single highest price; average rank averages its position. Contests need at least two books. Benchmark books are excluded from these contests entirely.

Listing lead & coverage

Listing lead measures how long before kickoff we first captured a price (from our capture viewpoint — not an official listing time). Coverage = share of tracked matches where the book had any complete quote. Books with zero data in a window show as absent, never as 0%.

Sample-size rule

Any metric with fewer than 100 samples in its window is flagged low-sample and greyed in the UI. Publication tiers: provisional (≥7 days, ≥10 matches per book), 30-day comparison (≥30 matches), 60-day and 90-day book pages require ≥40 and ≥60 matches respectively. We do not publish "90-day tested" claims before the window genuinely exists.

Sharp-market benchmarks

Pinnacle and Betfair Exchange prices are captured with the same pipeline and windows, as reference anchors for what a low-margin market looks like. They are not review subjects, take no seats in ranking contests, and are never linked commercially.

Operator facts

License, operator entity and similar facts are verified only from first-party pages (operator sites, terms, regulators). Every fact stores the quoted sentence, source URL and verification date. Unverified fields are stored as null and simply not shown — we do not fill gaps from memory or third-party reviews.

Affiliate disclosure

FootyTips has affiliate relationships with some sportsbooks (currently Stake, BC.Game, Duelbits and Cloudbet). Outbound buttons go through tracked /out/ links and may earn us a commission at no cost to you. Affiliate status never affects the measured numbers, and books without a signed relationship get no outbound links at all. We accept no payment for placement or rankings — there are no rankings.

No ratings, no reviews

These pages intentionally carry no star ratings and no Review or AggregateRating structured data. They are datasets with documented methods, not editorial reviews.
